ISAK Level 1

Course Description

Course Description

Course Description

ISAK Level 1 is an introductory course in sports anthropometry and anthropometric techniques. This course includes both theoretical and practical components. The theoretical components cover essential topics such as anatomy, body composition assessment, and somatotyping. The practical application involves the measurement of a restricted profile, which encompasses a total of 21 measurements (4 base measurements, 6 girths, 8 skinfolds, and 3 bone breadths), making it a comprehensive program for those interested in ISAK USA standards.

Objectives

Course Description

Course Description

Demonstrate proper manipulation, calibration, and maintenance of various anthropometry equipment as part of a comprehensive body composition assessment. Showcase adequate technical precision in measuring 4 base measurements, 8 skinfolds, 6 girths, and 3 bone breadths, essential for accurate sports anthropometry. Compute the technical error of measurement (TEM) of anthropometric data to verify your precision and accuracy at an introductory level. Calculate Somatotype and describe its applications to health and sport profiling, particularly in the context of ISAK USA standards. Describe the utility, limitations, and assumptions of assessing percent body fat using the two-component model, and explain how to effectively integrate a Physique Assessment System (restricted profile) in various sports settings.

ISAK Level 2

Course Description

Course Description

Course Description

ISAK Level 2 is designed for professionals seeking advanced and detailed anthropometric data that surpasses what the ISAK Level 1 course provides. This course delves into more comprehensive theory components, including proportionality, 5-way fractionation procedures for body composition assessment, and methods for calculating the muscle-to-bone ratio to determine the maximal FFM potential of athletes. Students will master ISAK’s Full Profile, which encompasses a total of 42 measurements (4 base measurements, 13 girths, 8 skinfolds, 8 bone lengths, and 9 bone breadths) with a stricter error tolerance than ISAK Level 1, all crucial for sports anthropometry and effective assessment in the field.

Objectives

Course Description

Course Description

Demonstrate proper manipulation, calibration, and maintenance of all anthropometry equipment as part of effective body composition assessment practices. Show adequate technical precision in measuring the four base measurements, eight skinfolds, thirteen girths, nine bone lengths/heights, and nine bone breadths. Compute the technical error of measurement (TEM) of anthropometric data to verify that your precision and accuracy meet the research standards established by ISAK USA. Apply the principles of geometric similarity to scale anthropometric data, allowing for comparisons of the dimensional and functional characteristics of athletes of different sizes within sports anthropometry. Calculate Somatotype, describe its applications to health and sport profiling, and explain how to apply somatotype statistics alongside the three-dimensional nature of the somatochart. Discuss the limitations, assumptions, and errors associated with various body composition assessment methodologies, and differentiate between anatomical and chemical models. Finally, describe how to integrate a Physique Assessment System in various sports settings using the Full Profile.

SPORTS ANTHROPOMETRY: ISAK ACCREDITATION COURSES

Course Overview

ISAK Certification courses are tailored for Sports Scientists, Nutritionists, and other Health & Fitness professionals who aim to deliver precise body composition assessments to their clients, students, or patients. By becoming an ISAK Certified Anthropometrist, you will join an elite group of experts in ISAK USA, equipped with the knowledge and skills to evaluate your client’s physique through a detailed series of bone lengths, breadths, skinfolds, and girth measurements. These sports anthropometry techniques can be utilized for various purposes, including monitoring growth and development, identifying talented athletes, assessing health status, and evaluating the effects of exercise and nutrition interventions on changes in body size, shape, and composition.

All students should possess or currently be completing a University  degree or accredited certification in a relevant field. For ISAK Level  2, successful completion of Level 1 course is required along with having 40 profiles.
